Canberra Raiders

The Canberra Raiders were established in 1982 and play in the National Rugby League (NRL).

They started playing out of Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan, and played their first competition match on the ground against the Western Suburbs Magpies on March 6, 1982.

Dubbed the Green Machine, the Raiders had their first competition win against the Newtown Jets at Seiffert Oval on April 18, 1982 winning 12-11.

The Raiders made their first Grand Final in 1987 going down 18-8 to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, before claiming their maiden premiership win in 1989 as they defeated the Balmian Tigers 19-14 in a match thats been dubbed the greatest Grand Final of all time.

Since that first premiership the Green Machine has won two more titles in 1990 (defeating the Penrith Panthers 18-14) and 1994 (defeating Canterbury Bulldogs 36-12), while finishing runners up in 1991.

Currently, the Canberra Raiders play at GIO Stadium and train at Raiders HQ in Bruce, ACT.
