Canberra Theatre Centre is Canberras premier performing arts venue, providing world class performing arts and entertainment to the people of Canberra and surrounding regions.

Canberra Theatre Centre includes the 1,244 seat Canberra Theatre, The Playhouse seating 618 and The Courtyard Studio, an intimate rehearsal and performance space that seats up to 90 patrons. The Link connects the Canberra Theatre and The Playhouse and includes exhibition and function areas. The Centre also has a comprehensive technical workshop, backstage and dressing room areas, and is fully equipped with up-to-date lighting and audio facilities.

Located centrally in Civic Square, Canberra Theatre Centre is the focal point for performing arts in Canberra and is often considered the heart of the city. The Canberra Theatre Centre was opened in 1965 and The Playhouse was rebuilt and opened again in 1998 with a gala concert.

Canberra Theatre opened in June 1965 and has since maintained its reputation as the premier performing arts venue in Canberra. Canberra Theatre has housed major presenting companies such as The Australian Opera and Sydney Dance Company, as well as international acts, comedy, popular music and family entertainment.

The Playhouse

The Playhouse seats 618 people on three levels.

The Playhouse design is based on Grecian and Elizabethan architectural principles offering superb sight lines from all three levels while maintaining an intimate atmosphere.

The Playhouse has traditionally housed respected companies such as The Bell Shakespeare Company and is a popular venue for comedy, drama, music and dance.

The Courtyard Studio

The Courtyard Studio is Canberra Theatre Centres boutique, studio performance space that doubles as the perfect venue for rehearsals, entertaining, corporate functions / meetings, exhibition space, and as an intimate performance space.

The Courtyard Studio can seat up to 90 people comfortably for a performance. For entertaining it can seat 100 and for cocktail parties it has a capacity of 140 people.
