Tulip Top Gardens is a breathtaking springtime retreat where the soothing sounds of a hidden valley waterfall blend with the splendor of blooming trees and flowers creating a unique and peaceful paradise.
Established in 1997 by the Rhodin family the gardens have transformed from a simple grassy field into a vibrant floral haven. Each year nearly a million bulbs and various flowering plants are meticulously hand-planted across the 10-acre property.
The tulips are the garden's crowning glory offering a stunning array of colors and varieties that make a visit to Sutton (distinct from Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands) truly worthwhile. Besides the tulips you'll find an array of other beautiful flowers including pansies English daisies daffodils violas polyanthus poppies and peonies complemented by weeping willows cherry blossom trees and more.
For gardening enthusiasts the garden information marquee provides insights into planting techniques and the garden's history. The nursery's specialty stalls offer colorful potted plants and bulbs while the quirky garden gift shop features plants in retro suitcases and a range of hats bags scarves and curios.
The festival at Tulip Top Gardens not only celebrates the tulips but also offers entertainment on select days. Enjoy classical music drifting through the trees or join in lively rhythm-filled performances.
Refreshments include complimentary tea and coffee a free sandwich from the barbecue and a variety of options at the Eat Inc Cafe including cold and hot food for purchase. Don't miss the Dutch pancake and barista coffee parlour as well as honey tastings and product sales from Australian Honey.
For a more substantial treat you can order one of two delightful picnic hampers from Contentious Characters: the Fromage Only (5 cheeses) or the Fromage (3 cheeses) + Charcuterie (3 meats). Each hamper priced at $80 includes pickles Contentious condiments dips house-made focaccia Falwasser crackers and a mix of seasonal dry and fresh fruits. Hampers come with cutlery and are designed to serve two people. They can be ordered online for pickup at the Contentious wine bar which also offers wine tastings and sales of their full range.
Facilities at the gardens include toilets free parking (including spaces for disabled visitors) and EFTPOS at the main entrance. Dogs (up to 2 per person) are welcome on a leash so they can enjoy the fresh country air alongside their owners.
Remember to bring your picnic blanket hat and sunblock for a delightful day out. Tulip Top Gardens is an easy day trip from Sydney (2 hours and 45 minutes each way) or a quick overnight stay in Canberra.
